System has been
designed keeping
familiarization time in
mind.

Administrators can
gradually move from
default to advanced
functionality at their
own pace without
affecting functionality
or network availability.
Intuitive and Simple Graphical User Interface Based Management

FMS-Enterprise Gateway has extensive GUI based intuitive interface to manage the system and obtain up to
date status information. The interface has been designed using actual user inputs about ease of use and
understanding. From administrator's point of view, all the GUI can be considered to be used for 1) showing
specific data or status 2) changing, updating specific configuration.

This conceptual framework of dividing all GUI into two parts makes management and use of the system quite
easy.

Installation, Management and Use

FMS-Enterprise Gateway has been designed to work as a device which is not visible to the ordinary users. It
seamlessly integrates in the network because it requires no network configuration changes. By defining a few
simple parameters, the installation process can be completed in short period. With built-in diagnostics
capabilities for the administrators and detailed information it maintains for every network activity (and
presents it in simple readable form), operating FMS is quite a pleasant experience.

Sophisticated Inter-FMS Synchronization for Ease of Operations and Management

To simplify maintenance and operations of a group of FMS-Enterprise Gateways (called peers) deployed in a
large network, all updates for the following configuration data are automatically synchronized:

  1. Virus/worm/malicious mobile content filters are automatically synchronized among all FMS-Enterprise
Gateways. If the administrator creates a virus filter on any of the FMS-Enterprise Gateways, the filter
need not be duplicated by the administrator because all the FMS-Enterprise Gateways (defined as peers)
automatically receive this new virus filter.
  2. Information trackers created for a document are propagated to all peer FMS-Enterprise Gateways
    automatically.
  3. Source IP address based intrusion detection and intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS) filters are
automatically synchronized among peer FMS-Enterprise Gateways.
  4. TCP/UDP port and string pattern based intrusion detection and intrusion prevention (IDS/IPS) filters
are automatically synchronized among peer FMS-Enterprise Gateways.
  5. Any newly configured users by the administrator or newly auto learned users through DHCP protocol
packet monitoring are automatically synchronized among peer FMS-Enterprise Gateways.
  6. Any newly defined application controls are propagated to other FMS-Enterprise Gateways in the
network. Permission changes on an existing application controls are automatically synchronized among
    peer FMS-Enterprise Gateways.

This takes away a great amount of burden from the system administrator by eliminating the need to replicate
the configuration.
